NAFDAC Destroys N30bn Counterfeit Drugs





The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake drugs and other regulated products worth N30 billion in the last three years, Director General of the agency, Yetunde Oni said.


She disclosed this at the weekend during the destruction of expired, fake and substandard foods, drugs and drinks worth N105 million from Benue and Nasarawa States at Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Represented by the Director of Special Duties, Alhaji Abubakar Jimoh, Mrs Oni said that some of the destroyed drugs were voluntarily submitted to the agency, while others were mopped up from open market.
Nasarawa State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr Micheal Attah, said the joint destruction exercise was a testimony that NAFDAC was working and leaving no stone unturned in ridding the country of counterfeit products.
